Year 9 Trust-wide assessments - further details

Further to our letter of 20th April, we are writing to provide final details regarding the Year 9 assessments which begin next week.

These assessments are a vital opportunity for students to demonstrate their progress across the curriculum. While most subjects will conduct their assessments during regular lesson time in classrooms, the Maths and Science assessments will take place under formal exam conditions.

Key Dates:

  • Wednesday 6th May: Maths (Paper 1) and Science

  • Thursday 7th May: Maths (Paper 2)

Preparation and expectations

To ensure all students feel confident and prepared, we have delivered an online briefing explaining the process. We will also give a "refresher" reminder to Year 9 before the assessments begin.

We have spoken clearly to all students about exam hall rules. The following items are not allowed in the exam room:

  • mobile phones

  • watches (of any kind)

  • earpods/headphones

We provide secure bag storage for all students, and staff will be on hand to show them exactly how to access this before they enter the hall.

We have also spoken to students about behaviour expectations in the exam room. Students can put their hand up if they need to speak to a member of staff. However, they should not communicate in any way with other students.

Student wellbeing and support

We want our students to be fuelled and ready for the day. The Diner is open from 7.30am daily, offering free toast, crumpets and juice to all students.

If your child is feeling anxious or has any concerns, we encourage them to speak to their Form Tutor or Head of Year. We are here to help them navigate this experience as smoothly as possible.

Should you have any further questions regarding the assessments, please contact the Year 9 team directly at: manc-y9@coopacademies.co.uk.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students achieve their best.
