Higher Blackley's Community Fridge
Help us stop good food going to waste.
Higher Blackley's Community Fridge is open to everyone.
What is a Community Fridge?
A Community Fridge is a shared space where surplus food is made freely available to local people. Food is donated by businesses and the community.
It's open to everyone - you don't need to register, and it's not a food bank. The aim is simple: to reduce food waste and support our community.
How it works
- No sign-up needed
- Please only take what you need
- Come along, have a look, and take what you'll use
Want to donate?
Anyone can donate.
- Drop donations at the academy reception
- Or bring them to the Cabin during opening hours
If you're a business and would like to donate, please email: manc-community-m@coopacademies.co.uk

Seed Swap
Share seeds. Grow together.
Our Seed Swap helps the community grow more - for people, wildlife and the planet.
How it works:
- Donate seeds or plants you don't need
- Take seeds or plants you'll use
- Choose from flowers for wildlife or edible plants
No experience needed.
If you're unsure how to grow from seed, we'll be running friendly events throughout the year to help you get started.
Little Library
Take a book. Share a story.
Our Little Library is a free, shared space for pre-loved books.
You'll find a mix of ages, interests and genres - from children's books to adult reads.
How it works:
- Take a book to enjoy
- Donate a book you've finished with
- No sign-up, no cots
Looking for something in particular? Let us know - we'll do our best to find it for you.

Students and young people
We would prefer that visitors to the Little Green Cabin are adults. This is because:
- We want a responsible member of a family to take food on behalf of that family.
- We want to ensure food taken will not be wasted.
- We want to ensure that the Fridge is a calm and orderly space for our visitors.
Therefore, we will not usually allow unsupervised children access. Please get in touch with us if we need to explore a different solution for your family.
