I am writing to share some important information with you as your child enters Year 11. We know that this final year of GCSEs is a demanding and crucial time for our students and their families, which is why our partnership with you has never been more important. Our absolute focus is to work closely with you to help your child maximise their potential and feel fully supported.

Main points of contact

We have a dedicated and highly experienced team working with Year 11:

• Pastoral Heads of Year: Mr Poole and Ms Jackson. Both are incredibly experienced and know this year group well. They will greet your child at the gates each morning, providing a perfect opportunity for students to check in or ask for advice.

• Academic Head of Year: Mr Small. His focus is entirely on your child's academic progress and outcomes.

• Senior Leadership Link: Mr Moosa (myself). I am responsible for exams and outcomes, and have worked closely with the year group during their Year 10 mock exams.

• Behaviour Lead: Ms Quinn (Vice Principal).

Mock Exams

At the end of Year 10, students completed their first round of mock exams. To ensure they are fully prepared for the summer, there will be two further mock seasons this year:

• Year 11 Mock Season 1: Begins at the end of September 2026

• Year 11 Mock Season 2: Begins mid-January 2027

We will write to you again in September with the detailed mock exam timetable once it is published.
 

Tutor Time Interventions

As you know, our academy day begins at 8:25am, and students are expected to be trough the external gates before 8.20am.

Our morning registration and Tutor Time schedule is structured as follows:

Monday	Tuesday	Wednesday	Thursday	Friday
Assembly	Personal, Social, Health, & Economic Education (PSHE)	English or Maths Intervention	English or Maths Intervention	Rewards’ Briefing / English or Maths Intervention

Now that students are in the most critical year of their academic journey, these morning intervention sessions are vital. Students who arrive late to school will miss this essential, targeted revision opportunity.

 

Period 6 (Compulsory Extended Day)

On Mondays and Tuesdays, the academy day is extended to 4:00 PM for all Year 11 students. This is a compulsory part of the Year 11 timetable.

During Period 6, students will receive targeted, small-group intervention. On one day, they will focus on core subjects (English, Maths, or Science), and on the other, they will focus on one of their option subjects. To ensure balanced support, the subjects students focus on during this time will rotate four times throughout the year.

 

Home Learning and Revision

Students are already well established in the routine of completing compulsory maths home learning via the Sparx Maths online platform. As a reminder, Sparx Maths must be completed on a two-week cycle. To support students in meeting this deadline and avoiding after-school detentions, IT facilities are fully available in the library at break, lunch, and after school.

Please note that we plan to enhance our home learning expectations after the first half-term by introducing compulsory weekly English and Science Home Learning.

 

Careers Guidance

Mrs Davey and Mrs Godfrey make up our wonderful careers team. They will be arranging 1-to-1 appointments with all Year 11 students throughout the year to offer personalised guidance on their next steps, college applications, and future paths.

September Return

We are incredibly excited to welcome our Year 11 students back on Thursday 3rd September.

To help us get off to a prompt start, please remember that our school gates close at 8:20am (any students arriving after this time will need to enter via the late gate). Our Heads of Year will be waiting at the Year 11 entrance, ready to welcome everyone back.

To ensure a smooth, positive start to the term, we kindly ask that you review our uniform expectations with your child beforehand. This will help us avoid any unnecessary delays or disruptions at the gate on their first morning. Don’t forget that skirts are no longer part of the uniform and all students will be required to wear plain black tailored trousers instead.

Our mission is to support our young people to achieve their very best by holding them to the highest standards, building their confidence and celebrating their successes. We are incredibly proud of this year group and have no doubt they will go on to achieve brilliant things.
