Reflecting on our First Seven Weeks at Co-op Academy Manchester

Letter from Joanne Clifton, Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
When I wrote to you in June upon joining Co-op Academy Manchester as Headteacher, I shared my ambition and vision for our academy community, anchored around three core priorities:
-
Academic Excellence: A relentless focus on teaching that challenges every child to think bigger and aim higher.
-
The "Co-op Way": Living our values and realising our belief to Succeed Together by making sure staff and students show respect, choose kindness, and work hard.
-
Attendance and Punctuality: Recognising that success starts with being present, because for every student, every day in school is an opportunity to learn and grow.
As we reach the end of our first seven weeks of this academic year, I am delighted to report that we have made a fantastic start across all of these areas.
Academic Excellence & Student Pride
It has been an absolute privilege to see our students working hard in their lessons and excelling together. During the school day, I witness high-quality learning, enthusiasm, and a genuine ambition among students in every year group. Our newest year 7 students have settled in brilliantly, adapting seamlessly to life at Co-op Academy Manchester with energy and confidence. Our Year 11 cohort has just completed their first set of mock examinations. Their focus, resilience, and mature approach to these exams have set a strong tone for the pivotal year ahead.
Attendance & Punctuality
Success begins with showing up and being ready to learn. I am thrilled to share that, thanks to the commitment of our students and the strong partnership with our families, we have seen an increase in attendance across all year groups. Thank you for supporting your children to be in school every day.
Living the "Co-op Way" & Celebrating Success
Our ethos is built on respect, kindness, and collective effort. Over the past seven weeks, our students have lived these values daily, and it has been wonderful to celebrate their achievements:
-
7492 Golden Tickets awarded to students demonstrating exceptional effort and values.
-
24,743 Achievement Points earned across the academy.
Showcasing Our Academy
It was also a fantastic privilege to showcase our academy during our recent Open Evening and during my regular weekly tours. Welcoming prospective families and visitors into our school to see our dedicated staff and brilliant students in action fills me with immense pride. All the parents noted how the learning environment and culture of the school was wonderful.
Looking Ahead
Thank you to all our parents, carers, staff, and students for your warm welcome, dedication, and support over these first seven weeks. We have built a solid foundation together, and I am excited for everything we will accomplish as the year continues.
I wish you and your families a restful and peaceful half-term break.
Warmest regards,
Yours sincerely
Joanne Clifton
