Introducing reading rulers

You may have noticed your child with a 'GREAT' bookmark in their pencil case.
These bookmarks are used during Form Time and lessons as reading rulers – just one of our key reading strategies.
Reading a novel together in Form Time requires active participation and focus. We want every student to use their bookmark to track the words as they are read aloud by the teacher. This helps students to focus on the text.
Teachers will also be using bookmarks under visualisers during lessons to break down text, helping with students' understanding and increasing their confidence.
How you can help at home :
-
Remind your child to keep their reading ruler safe, so it is always ready for school.
-
For Key Stage 3 students: ask them about the book they are reading in Form Time.
Thank you for your continued support.
