A warm welcome to our new Year 7 families

What a fantastic start to the new school year! The transition to secondary school is a significant milestone, and we've been so impressed with how well our new Year 7 students have settled in.
They've approached new subjects and routines with confidence and enthusiasm, and we're already seeing them build new friendships and embrace the opportunities available to them.
Their hard work and positive attitudes are already having a huge impact. As a year group, Year 7 has been awarded over 650 achievement points and 250 Golden Tickets, which proves the dedication they have to their high school journey. We are also celebrating their attendance – an impressive 98.2%. Excellent attendance means students don't miss out on vital learning. Our attendance target for all students is more than 98%.
To help your child continue their successful start, please ensure they come to school prepared every day. All students have been given a pencil case containing a pen, pencil, and ruler. They must also take their folder of Knowledge Expert Sheets with them to every lesson.
Home learning
All Year 7 students were set their first home learning task on Monday 14th September, to be completed before Monday 28th September. Students are set home learning on Sparx Maths and have two weeks to complete it. The timetable for the rest of this half-term can be found on our website.
Students access Sparx Maths by logging into their academy Google account and clicking the Sparx Maths link on the portal. If they have any issues, they should speak to their Maths teacher.
Extracurricular
We offer a range of activities to our students outside of lessons.
Diner 1 is open from 7.30am every morning, serving free breakfast to all students.
The Library offers a quiet place for students to read or study.
After school opening times:
-
Monday - Wednesday: 3.15pm - 4.15pm
-
Thursday: 2.30pm - 4pm
-
Friday: closed
The Library is also open from 8am each morning, and during every break and lunchtime.
We will soon be launching our extracurricular timetable, which includes lunchtime and after-school clubs. We will discuss these with students during tutor time and publish the calendar of activities on our website.
Meet the Form Tutor – Thursday 1st November
We will be inviting parents and carers of students in Year 7 to meet with their child's form tutor to discuss their progress. Further details will be shared before the event.
Assessments
Year 7 students have been sitting in-class assessments. If your child was absent or missed a test for any reason, we will ensure they catch up in the next week or two. Please reassure your child that these tests are nothing to be anxious about, and they cannot revise for them. We use the results (along with students’ Key Stage 2 SATs scores and their reading age) to help us understand each student's abilities and provide effective support in lessons. We will write to you with your child's score and reading age once all assessments are complete.
We look forward to a successful year ahead and will continue to keep you updated on your child's progress.
