Year 10 update - mocks & home learning

We are writing to share some important information about mock exams and home learning for Year 10.
Mock exams
Year 10 mock exams are really important because they help teachers and students identify areas for future focus as they prepare for their final GCSEs.
Students will complete three rounds of mock exams in total. We are planning for these to take place:
-
June 2026 (see the timetable here)
-
September 2026
-
February 2027
These exams are a vital opportunity for students to experience formal exam conditions, and for them to receive feedback from their teachers.
To support students' revision, Diner 3 will be open from 7.30am each morning during the mock exam periods. Free toast, crumpets, and juice will be available for all students using this space for independent revision. Students who want to use Diner 3 will enter the building through main reception.
To ensure exams start on time, it is crucial that students are in school and seated in their tutor rooms no later than 8.30am.
Teachers will be offering before and after school ‘booster’ sessions to support students. We will share the timetable after the half-term break.
Exam rules
We will be reminding students of the strict rules that apply to all formal exams. Students must be aware that:
-
Bags, coats, smartwatches, mobile phones and wireless headphones must all be left outside the exam room;
-
Students must be silent within the exam room;
-
Students can’t communicate with each other in any way when in the exam room.
Thank you for your ongoing support as your child prepares for this important stage in their academic journey. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Year 10 Heads of Year: manc-y10@coopacademies.co.uk
Home learning
From Monday 1st June we are changing the way we set homework. Home learning is shown to have a big impact on students’ progress, and helps to prepare them for success once they’ve left school.
Focus on Maths
Students are already expected to complete homework on Sparx Maths. This has shown a positive impact on progress in lessons. From 1st June, students will continue to be set home learning on Sparx Maths. However, it will now be set on a Monday and must be completed within 2 weeks. This means that the first round of homework should be done before Monday 15th June.
If a student misses the opportunity to practise a specific method at home, they may find themselves struggling to keep up. To ensure no student falls behind, we are introducing a new layer of accountability.
Students who do not complete their set home learning by the deadline will be issued a "Habits Detention."

More subjects will follow
From September 2026, we will also be introducing home learning for the other core subjects: English and Science. We will keep you informed when these changes happen.
We appreciate your continued support in ensuring students develop great study habits.
If you have any questions regarding home learning, or require support with our online learning platforms, please contact the Year 10 Heads of Year or the Maths Department.
