Celebrating the class of 2023

On Thursday 23 November we welcomed back our class of 2023. Since leaving in June, they have started college, traineeships and apprenticeships. We invited them - and their families - to return to celebrate their achievements over the last five years and to collect their GCSE certificates.

As students entered the Theatre, our Big Band played a number of tunes to mark the occasion.

The evening started with a welcome from academy Principal Mr Allan Glover. Although he has only recently taken the reins, he was proud to welcome the class of 2023 back.

Head of School Mrs Melanie McMorrow, Head of Years Ms Beckford and Assistant Vice Principals Mrs Lisa Antrobus and Mrs Hayley Heslop - who worked very closely with Year 11 last year - shared their memories and aspirations for the cohort. In one memorable moment, they were accompanied by Vice Principal Mrs Samuel on the horn.

As well as collecting their certificates, there were a number of special trophies presented. These included subject awards for students who had achieved amazing things in their lessons, as well as special awards that recognised stunning achievements in community service, in music and in overcoming adversity.

The evening was rounded off by a heartfelt speech from current Year 11 students Elektra and Will, who talked about their experiences of watching the class of 2023 as older role models.

We were delighted that so many former students and their families could join us for this special evening. We hope that our class of 2023 will keep in touch as they continue their journeys.
