Year 9 Progress & Options Evening

Next half-term, all Year 9 students will be selecting the four options subjects they will study throughout key stage 4 (Years 10 and 11).
All students will continue with the three core subjects (English, Maths and Science) as well as core PE (they will not take an exam) and PSHE (delivered during tutor time).
Students will be able to choose four options subjects in total. We will provide more details around this choice in the coming weeks.
Save the date
Year 9 Progress and Options Evening: Thursday 5 February 2026, 4pm – 7.30pm
The evening is a chance for you to speak with your child’s teachers about how they are performing across all subjects, ahead of making their final options choices.
There will be subject specialists from all departments available to answer questions around:
- Course content
- Exam requirements
- Possible further education / career destinations
On the evening, we will be asking your child to log into their academy account and enter a PIN that will be given to you – this means it will only be possible for you to complete the options process together. If students arrive without a parent/carer, they will not be able to make their choice on the evening.
Attendance at this event by parents/carers and their child is essential to help you understand the options process and make informed choices. Furthermore, you will have access to personalised advice on the subjects your child is most likely to succeed in.
The decisions that you and your child make regarding these options may affect their future career pathway, therefore it is vital that both you and your child are fully informed about the learning pathways on offer at the academy.
Once students begin their studies in Year 10, options can't be changed for any student and all courses run for a full two years. As such, you and your child must be confident in the options chosen before the start of Year 10. More information will be sent out in the coming weeks to support this.
If you have any enquiries about this process, please get in touch.
Yours sincerely

Assistant Vice Principal (Personal Development and Transition)
